The Trust was set up in 1999, in response to a recommendation by the Government's Coalfields Task Force Report. The report highlighted the dramatic effects that mine closures had - and continue to have - on communities in coalfield areas. The Coalfields Regeneration Trust provides advice, support and financial assistance to community and voluntary organisations who are working hard to tackle problems at grass-roots level. The Trust is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. A key feature of the Trust in Wales is that it is closely connected with the areas it serves, operating through a network partner organizations and dedicated staff.
